EDINBURGH 2026: Review: FLOP! THE BEST SONGS FROM THE WORST MUSICALS, Gilded Balloon
Flop! The Best Songs From The Worst Musicals runs at Edfringe until 30 August

Flop! The Best Songs From The Worst Musicals is a cabaret by Arthur Hull. The premise is that even the bad musicals that failed have at least one good song to redeem them.
Hull is a wonderful host for the evening and as well as being a fantastic musical performer, he is warm, funny and entertaining.
We are treated to songs from the likes of Spiderman: Turn Off The Dark, Diana The Musical and Moby Dick. Every one of them an absolute banger. There’s also some context and background on why the shows never worked on Broadway, and some eye-watering facts about the investment lost. I thought I knew a lot about Broadway history but there were still a lot of surprises!
It’s a visually brilliant show too as Hull takes on some of the more physical roles like the opening number from Carrie. Audience members have the opportunity to join in as well and there are some really good callbacks.
Arthur Hull has bags of energy, and his joy for musical theatre is contagious. Flop! is a whirlwind hour that manages to cover a lot of ground and is thoroughly entertaining.
